- “Rabble-Rouser” was launched in front of capacity crowds at Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront on September 28 and at Exclusive Books in Hyde Park, Johannesburg, on October 5. Desmond Tutu spoke in Cape Town and South Africa’s finance minister, Trevor Manuel, in Johannesburg.
- Khotso Makhulu, formerly archbishop of Central Africa, spoke at the London launch of the book in Southwark Cathedral, on October 11.
- In the U.S., John presented the book at a seminar of the African Studies Program, Princeton Institute for International and Regional Studies, at Princeton University on October 16.
- “Rabble-Rouser” was launched in the United States at a public event at Trinity Church, Wall Street on October 18. (See photo above right.) Six hundred guests attended a panel discussion with Archbishop Tutu and the author, moderated by broadcaster and commentator John Hockenberry. - On October 19th, John spoke to a group at the Church Center for the UN, in a session arranged by the organisation Shared Interest. He then travelled to All Saints Church, Pasadena, California, where he addressed the Rector’s forum on the morning of Sunday October 22, and a group after Jazz Vespers that evening. He launched the book at the Cathedral College of the National Cathedral in Washington DC on October 28. - He conducted a workshop and addressed the congregation of the University United Methodist Church in Austin, Texas, on October 28 and October 29, then travelled to Des Moines, Iowa, where he spoke to meetings at the First United Methodist Church on Wednesday November 1, and at the Des Moines Public Library on Thursday November 2.
- Emory University in Atlanta organised a reception and signing on November 6
- On November 9 and 10, John gave a lecture on the book at the Duke Divinity School, Duke University .
- On November 13, he presented the book at the Harvard Coop bookstore in Harvard Square, Cambridge, Massachusetts.
